Last week many Nebraskans stated their disgust of the new license plate proposed by Governor Pete Ricketts.

Some people didn’t care for the choice in color. While the blue and yellow used in the license plate match the Nebraska state flag, many Nebraskans feel they identify with Husker Red, and couldn’t fathom putting a license plate on their vehicle that contained the colors of one of our rivals, Michigan.

For others, it was the image on the center of the license plate. The image depicted the Sower that can also be found on Nebraska’s State Capitol building. However many Nebraskans expressed their concern that the image did not truly resemble the Nebraska Sower, but rather the Sower found on the bell tower on the Michigan State campus. Several Nebraskans even joked the image  appeared to have a sexual connotation.

It was announced Friday that the Department of Motor Vehicles will work to re-design a more accurate image of the Nebraska Sower that does not appear to be a man being sexually suggestive while standing on a cupcake.

As always, Nebraskans will also be able to select a specialty plate for an addition fee should the new design still not meet their expectations. Just because one option was proposed, doesn’t mean it is the best choice for every person.

Just as Central Nebraska Doula supports any decision their client makes during labor, birth, and parenting, we will support your license plate choice without judgment!
