Postpartum Abdominal Binding
What is Postpartum Abdominal Binding?
Postpartum Abdominal Binding is based on the ancient art of Bengkung Belly Binding. A postpartum woman's abdomen is wrapped in a long strip of muslin fabric to support the muscles and organs throughout the postpartum healing process. Each wrap is designed to offer a custom fit for any body size.
What are the benefits of Postpartum Abdominal Binding?
Many Central Nebraska Doula clients choose Postpartum Abdominal Binding for the following reasons:
• Support of the abdominal muscles, including aiding in diastasis recti recovery, and the organs as they return to their pre-pregnancy size and position.
• Support of the lower back, resulting in relief for lower back aches.
• Support of the pelvis.
• Improves posture and prevents achy muscles due to slouching when breastfeeding.
About the Process
It is recommended that the binding process begin within the first few days postpartum after a vaginal birth, or around 6 weeks postpartum after a cesarean birth to allow the incision to heal properly.
